The books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes,
and Song of Solomon are written in poetic style. The Hebrew word
for wisdom is often translated "skill for living" stressing the practical
nature of Jewish life, thus these writings are grouped together as the
“wisdom”books. Wisdom literature gives counsel on the living of life and
attempts to make sense of the problems people face. Job addresses the problem
of suffering, Proverbs promotes decent and righteous living, Ecclesiastes
puts all the "good things" in life into perspective, and the Song of Solomon
celebrates true love. The book of Psalms is a collection of 150 songs and
poems most written by King David, which were used in Israel’s worship.
