Christian Bibles are divided into two main parts: the Old Testament
and the New Testament. The Old Testament includes 39 books that are arranged
in four categories: Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy), Historical Narrative
(Joshua-Esther), Psalms and Wisdom Writings (Psalms-Song of Solomon), and
Prophets (Isaiah-Malachi). The Old Testament contains a historical
view of the Christian faith from the creation of the earth a time 400 years
before Jesus Christ. It contains the Law the God gave the nation
of Israel through Moses, as well as many prophetical writings dealing with
the people of God. Genesis 1 - Exodus 19 cover about 2,500 years
of History when there was no written Law for man (from God). Exodus
20 begins the second "dispensation" of time when the written law for man
was that know of as the Law of Moses, the bulk of which is recorded in
Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
