But I Thought

But I thought the Bible said there were three wise men to visit Jesus Recall the question on our previous study and look at the answer below. Everybody and their dog says three wise men visited baby Jesus. The songs we sing, the holiday traditions our society holds, everything says THREE wise men; everything, that is, except the Bible.

Religious beliefs are like that a lot of the time. There are many ideas that just about everyone believes. For example, does it matter what you do in your service to God? It does. Some might respond; But I thought it didn t matter what you do as long as you believe and love God. Well, that s what most people will tell you. But it s not what God says.

In Mt. 7:21 Jesus said, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. And there you have it! From the Lord himself. Just believing in the Lord won t cut it.

But I thought Yeah, I know. So many people think it s enough just to be religious. But on the day of judgment there s going to be some sad surprises. Can you hear it now? But I thought I was living right. I went to church. I paid my tithes. I believed in the Lord. Jesus pictures it like this in Mt. 7:22-23. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. So it s not enough to just be religious. We can t afford to go with what we ve always thought. We ve got to study the Lord s word and follow his will for us. After all, we ll be judged by the word, not by what we always thought.

Dan. 5:1-31 records the story of the handwriting on the wall. In verse 27 we learn the king was weighed by God and found wanting. His life was wicked and he didn t measure up. What does your life look like to God? Do you measure up? Think about it.!!

Leave This Stuff Alone!!

Gal. 5:19-21 says, Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Know what these are?
